“If I’d known how much packing I’d have to do, I’d have run
again.” This is our favorite packing quote from Harry S Truman. If poor
president would have been organized and had his staff make a packing list, it
may not have been so painful.
Most of us can sympathize with the president, even after all
this time. And we’re not even talking about moving – we’re talking about
packing for vacation. And not just for any vacation – we are talking about the
dubious task of packing for an RV vacation.
It’s harder than it sounds. If you’re backpacking with a tent,
you have the luxury of having to pack a few chosen things. Even though this
type of packing needs organization and minimalism, it’s only a backpack. (No
offence, trekkers!)
If you are packing an RV, then you are literally packing up a
whole home. You could go minimalistic and pack one cup, one sleeping back and
one plate per person, but that’s not the point, is it?
You have a beautiful house on wheels that’s going to take you
on a journey – you need to make sure you have everything to make this trip
comfortable. Towels, plates, cutlery, paper towels, napkins, household cleaning
supplies, food, bedding, knives, bonfire accessories, books, tea, coffee – the
list goes on and on and on.
This can’t be all done in your head. The best way to organize
all this information is to categorize it. Kitchen supplies, bathroom, bedroom,
driving area – it’s best to keep those separate and think carefully about what
you will need for each of them.
Oaktree Motorhomes has provided a basic checklist based on their experience – of course, you will have to add your own personalized products, but if you stick to the infographic below, you’re sure to have all your basic needs taken care of.
