New Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini certainly won’t be able to complain about not being given the backing of the club this summer. The Chilean coach arrives at a club that have made their intentions clear, spending nearly £100m in a bid to assemble a squad capable of wrestling the Premier League crown back from their city rivals United.
As well as the signing of Montenegro forward Steven Jovetic from Fiorentina, Spanish duo Alvaro Negredo and Jesus Navas both also arrived at the Etihad Stadium from Sevilla this summer, adding to the club’s already impressive attacking options.
But perhaps the most notable signing for City has been that of Brazilian star Fernandinho. The midfielder has been the club’s most expensive signing of the summer, arriving at the Premier League club for a reported £34m fee.
Now the question will be whether Pellegrini and his new players will be able to now go on and taste success in their first season in the Premier League.
