The drive-in theatre celebrates its 80 year anniversary this year as the first ever drive-in theatre was opened in New Jersey on 6th June all the way back in 1933 by Richard Hollingshead. He created a unique outdoor cinematic experience which by the late ’50s there were more than 4000 drive-in theatres. However, today it is a different story with only 357 drive-ins operating in America. Although there are not many drive-ins left people are still continuing to enjoy watching movies outdoors in the few that are. We take a look at the history of the drive-in and celebrate its incredible 80 year journey.
