How Creative Expression Improves Mental Health & Reduces Stress

As humans, we have never (in general) been more aware of our and other’s mental health and wellbeing. However, there is still another piece to add to the puzzle. As the World Health Organization states, “Mental health is more than the absence of mental disorders.”

Simply put, just like physical health, every individual also has mental health.

The WHO goes on to say, it “…is a state of wellbeing in which an individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and is able to make a contribution to his or her community”.

So no matter how physically well we might be, if we are not also mentally healthy, we are not healthy as a whole being. When we take a more holistic approach to our health, we understand that, like our physical health, our mental health also requires maintenance.

In our post ‘Crafting for Mental Health & Stress Management During Lockdown’ featured initially on DesignBundles.net, we explored the scientific link between creativity and mental health maintenance/stress reduction.

After noticing a significant increase in our crafting product sales during the global lockdown(s) experienced by most in 2020, we also reached out to the blogging community to find out more. We gathered first-hand accounts of how people used crafting to cope during this unprecedented and stressful time.
